Swiss watch giant Swatch has officially unveiled its latest collaboration with luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet — and it’s one of the most unexpected releases of the year.
Called the Royal Pop, the collection reimagines the iconic Royal Oak design as a playful, colorful pocket watch inspired by Swatch’s experimental POP watches from the 1980s.
The past days there were a lot of AI generated images of what this collab might look like, but now we know. The internet was quite disapointed when finding out it wasn't gonna be a classic watch.
Playful candy-like pocketwatches
Instead of creating a traditional wristwatch, the brands chose a bold and nostalgic direction that blends haute horlogerie with pop culture aesthetics.
The collection features eight vibrant models, all powered by a hand-wound SISTEM51 movement with an impressive 90-hour power reserve. Signature Audemars Piguet details — like the octagonal bezel and Petite Tapisserie dial pattern — are combined with Swatch’s accessible and fun design language.
Hype and heritage
Beyond the watches themselves, the collaboration reflects a larger trend in the luxury industry: making iconic design more approachable for younger audiences. Following the success of the MoonSwatch and Blancpain collaborations, Swatch once again proves that hype and heritage can coexist.
The Royal Pop collection launches globally on May 16, 2026, exclusively through selected Swatch stores — and demand already appears to be massive.
